I'm Bummed

We were working in the backyard all morning. After lunch we realized we had not seen one of the turtles all morning – Norma, the outgoing one who usually comes out of the water to watch us whenever we’re doing something near the pond. We looked in the water; only one turtle. We spent over an hour combing the backyard for her (she likes to explore); no trace of her. She’s disappeared. I’m devastated. She was my favorite; she had personality (the other one, Ninja, just hides in the pond; she won’t come near people).

Why am I so sad over losing a turtle I’ve only had for 3 months? :(

Are you sure she is not just hiding (burrowing underground)? Turtles are very good at doing that and then magically reappearing at a later date.

I don't want to give false hope, but GusGus's aunt has a turtle that does that frequently.

The same reason I was devastated when my daughter's hamster, Hedwig, died of a stroke: You love her.

I hope KB is right.

Turtles DO like to explore. I just hope she didn't get out of the backyard. I'm not sure how strong their homing device is. I hope she turns up soon.

I hope she shows up soon. Maybe she's just hiding. I find with animals you get used to having them around. It can be heart breaking when they're gone.

Turtles disappear. I've known several people who own turtles who have stories like yours. Turtles are fence testers. They are really smart and are always looking for ways to escape. I hope she turns up, though.

Speaking of turtles, I stripped down to my underwear and swam in the north fork of the American River Saturday morning. Brrrrrrr.

(Best wishes on the search for your friend, JWB)

Aww. I hope that he returns to you. Hugs in the meantime.

Pictures?

Speaking of on topic and pictures.....do you have a pic of her that you could use for a wanted poster to place around your 'hood? Maybe someone has seen her.

Aww.. :({{{HUGS}}}} It's because you love her. Pets become very much a part of our family, from the teeniest goldfish to the tallest Great Dane. I was devastated when my little snow pea passed away (my little black lab, Sammi). That was November of last year, and not a day goes by where I don't wish I was snuggling with her and giving her little wet kisses. I miss my little bo peep. :( It's been 3 years since Doc (my other black lab) passed away, and I miss him just as much. I still talk about Bobo & Yockety Doc like they are still very much alive. In my heart, they always will be. :) (By the way, excuse my 8 million nicknames for my labbies!)

I'm in agreement over turtles loving to explore! My turtle, Julius, "ran" away when I was a little girl. I'll pray Norma (such a cute name :)) returns to her loving home with you as soon as possible!

Love,
~A
