any requests from the vinyl vault?

OK, so I finally decided to get serious about paring down my unwieldly collection of media. Since Friday, I've put 70 CDs on eBay, and I plan on putting 20 more up a day for a while.

I also decided to put some of my vinyl collection - particularly my 7" collection. Before I dive into the boxes and start getting rid of something that one of my friends might want, I figured I'd throw it out to you all.

Is there anyone out there with a vinyl wish? I know some of you come from a similar musical background as I (I'm thinking NA and Flippyshark in particular). The Rev. Horton Heat colored vinyl Sub-Pop single? Some weird 4AD release?
I've got a couple thousand slabs o' plastic here so lemme know if I can make your punk/indie/new wave dreams come true...

I actually have a wee tiny vinyl collection. I have a fondness for Sub Pop given where I've lived most of my life. Part of my motivation is collecting things I wasn't allowed to listen to growing up.

Don't suppose you ever made a catalog of your collection?

mousepod 06-18-2006 10:05 PM

Nope, I have too many things and not enough time. Speaking of Sub Pop - I was surprised to see that the first Nirvana single recently sold for over $3000 - last time I checked it was going for less than $400. I think that one might have to go...

Vinyl has become extremely collectible. Many people gleefully disposed of their collections in the trash can when the digital age hit.

I held onto a lot of vinyl (somewhere I have rare 7" four-song EP of "Teenage Enema Nurses in Bondage"), though it sounds nothing like 'Pods collection.

I have a pretty good David Bowie collection that I have yet to part with.

All Bowie goes to me, TYVM. ;)

I don't know what I don't have that I need. Considering my original vinyl is currently unaccessable in deep storage......

Ghoulish Delight 06-19-2006 08:29 AM

omg, you're raiding the vault?!

I'd request something, but I neither have room to store it, nor the technology to listen to it.

I love vinyl. I need a new needle. I have lots and lots of sixties and seventies stuff that I inherited, and when my grandfather dies I'll have lots of 40's and 50's stuff as well (I'm not hoping for that at all, just saying). I've only recently started building my indie vinyl collection, so far I only have a few Modest Mouses. Here's my long list of things I'll eventually buy on vinyl.

Anything:

Modest Mouse (except Everywhere and his Nasty Parlor Tricks and Moon and Antarctica)
Bright Eyes
Iron and Wine
Band of Horses
Pedro the Lion
Elliot Smith
Low
Flaming Lips
Pixies
Dead Kennedys
Smashing Pumpkins (old, or James Iha side projects)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Ugly Casanova
Walkmen

I wish more people appreciated vinyl. It's a totally different sound than listening to music on a digital player. So much warmer. I'll listen to my ipod all the live long day as background, but listening to the same music on vinyl is an experience unto itself.
