Heads Up
I take the 73 quite often and I wanted to give everyone the heads-up that there are several new speed traps. They are after the FastTrack toll areas as well as on open dirt patches at the center. Yesterday as we were coming home there were two cops on the dirt center near La Paz, a car go past and one of them take off after him with lights. There is also one on the 73 North coming up on Newport Coast.
If you're going to speed, remember slowing with your breaks with a cop behind you is a bad thing. |

Downshifting, foot off the gas, hills, they all accomplish the same thing.
Besides, cops will hover behind you and not bother you unless you hit the breaks. Breaks = knowing you were speeding. |
But, if you're caught speeding using breaks or downshifting won't make a difference.

True, however cops will sit behind you even if you are speeding and not touch you unless you hit the breaks.
|
So, they only ticket you if you REALIZE you are speeding? Otherwise, feel free to speed in ignorance.

I always seem to end up in a speed trap between here and Pismo, on the 166 coming down Goshen Grade. I have always managed to luck out by having an idiot pass me, going even faster than I was. More than once I have had the CHP wave a finger at me while he goes after the other car.

I have had cops and traffic school alike say that a cop will sit behind you and see if you hit your breaks to slow, so never hit your breaks. Most people will, as it is instinct. However if you are going with the speed of traffic and not driving like a moron you have a better chance of not getting pulled over if you don't hit your breaks. Of course there are cops that will pull you over for speeding period. The intent of this post was to alert people to new speed traps. The 73 is extremely easy to speed on whether or not it's on purpose. So be careful. Disclaimer because it appears I need one... speeding is dangerous and stupid and you may get ticketed so don't do it. Because of couse none of us here ever speed. |
The Ex was a big fan of slamming on the breaks every time he saw a policeman, like that's not obvious.
I agree as long as you're not weaving around, cutting people off you're generally ok. Oh and going the flow of traffic. |
