Delivered from Dial-up Hell

Last Thursday night, HUGE thunderstorm here. I awoke to a power surge and a Godawful noise coming from my office. Terrified the PC was the victim, I waited for the storms to pass and gingerly powered the thing up. PC, scanner, printer, all fine (double surged, better damn well be). DSL modem, fried, go figure, I can'te, plugged into the same surge that the CPU.

So, suffered through 56k dial up for the last few days, made LoT almost unloadable! New modem today, back and speedy, huge relief!

Thunderstorms have not stopped, yet. :( May I say, I will not miss this crappy weather? :D

Blast off for California, July 7th:snap:

Don't forget that a surge can flow down a telephone line just as easily as a power line. You should have a surge protector for the DSL/phone line also. Oh, and a few of these might help also.

I had a line in a play once about heat lightenin'. I've been fascinated with it ever since. However, it makes me a tad nervous. This one one reason why. Glad you're back in the speed zone and, keep on packing. California welcomes you.

Thank you! I will be traveling with a goodly amount less than I thought, actually, I'm freeing myself (as much as a terminal packrat can) by donating a bunch of stuff to a friend's niece who is starting her first apartment. She's getting 80% of my kitchen stuff (none of the kitchen aid appliances, nor my knives) but, microwave, toaster over, cheap espresso machine, crystal stemware, stainless, everyday glassware, tupperware, enough misc. gadgetry to keep her scratching her head for months wondering what it's for, my bedroom furniture (deco waterfall), bed, futon, a couple of bookcases, DVD player. I'm thrilled not to have to pack any of it! Hell, except for the microwave and toaster oven, I did not even clean any of it. :D

I'm looking forward to recollecting my heart that I left in San Francisco and my soul in California when I cross the state line.

And just think of all the new stuff you get to buy now!

It's quotes like this that almost make me want to pull up stakes and move somewhere new. What a feeling! I can't see us doing it, though we've discussed it more than once.
