Happy Stonewall Day!
For those of you who don't know (on this board, all six of you), the modern gay rights movement started 27 years ago in a drag bar in New York City called the Stonewall Inn.
I tip my hat to those pissed off queens who had the cajones to not stand for the cop's crap any more! |
It was also rumored to be triggered by the death of Judy Garland ;)

As the resident fag hag of my neighboorhood Act Up! group, I have seen a great amount change in the last 20+ years with regard to tolerance, and acceptance. To those who started the movement, a toast, for your sincere bravery. |
The Stonewall riot, while significant, wasn’t the first. There was one 3 years earlier at Gene Compton’s Café in San Francisco. Also, the gay rights movement didn’t start with Stonewall – homosexual rights groups were in existence long before – but it did give them a big boost.
The first gay pride parade was held to commemorate the one year anniversary of Stonewall. |
YAY for ALL of the progress and BOO to the detractors who need to get with the program.
