George Bush: Is he senile?

Watch this great video and decide for yourself.

As the original poster of this thread, I ask you to only comment directly on the video, and not to bring political leanings into the discussion.

I'm going with dry-drunk.

So is it ok to call him an ego driven moron? A sociopath with no conscience? A disingenuous abuser of the American propensity to look to their president as their leader?

No?

I'll go with dry-drunk.

What was wrong with calling him 'idiot' ?

That's certainly an interesting comparison of then vs. now. I don't think that video alone proves anything (and the fact that his mouth was not visible in the old video raises a small red flag), but I think it's worthy of further examination.

There was once an interesting article at Slate (I think) during the 2004 campaign that went into detail on how Bush consciously changed his speaking and debating style from a more polished approach to a more "aw shucks" style that they found worked a lot better.

I don't know how I'd go about finding it though.

Andy Griffith is a great example of a well-spoken person using an "aw shucks" delivery. GW fumbles for words, meanings, hell, even topics.

I think making any sort of diagnosis like that based on one video...or even based on all his public appearances is a bit narrow. For all we know, jumping from governor to president was just too much for him to handle. Or a lot of it could be affectation to appeal to his base (it frightens me how many people voted for him because he couldn't form a coherent sentence).

I've made my share of jokes about his public speaking abilities because it bugs the hell out of me that someone holds that position is incapable of being presentable. But I stop short of claiming to be able to diagnose what's wrong with him.

So you agree then, that something is wrong with him? ;)

Is there video proof of him speaking in an proper manner? That could be interesting. I do agree with Greg...

All I know is that presidents age very quickly in office. Ronnie, Bush Sr, Bill, Dubya... Tough job.
