Classic Trek to get CGI makeover...

The classic episodes to Star Trek (you know, the ones with Kirk/Spock)
will be getting a new look thanks to CGI effects

WTF?

They're messing with history here.

What made them great was certainly not the effects...

Oh hell. I'm trying get a good outraged frenzy worked up here but I just can't seem to do it. Change happens and perhaps a few new viewers will be converted to the cause. Of course my younger self would hang his head in shame and tell me that my words have no meaning....

Yawn.

Didn't Gene Roddenberry say "Star Trek will never be completed as long as there is imagination left in the world"?

Oh wait, maybe that was someone else...

Instead of adding effects to the old why not just do something original for once and leave the old stuff alone?

Ah, with new CGI, now we can all concentrate on the brilliant acting and not be distracted by the paper plates and zippers!! :)

that would require a certain level of originality that seems to have evaporated from TV in general....not that it wasnt a rare commodity to begin with.
this way you can make a new buck from the old (crap) without actually having to create something new..

like..oh say...
script
story
character development
plot
direction
etc...

Cadaverous Pallor 08-29-2006 04:58 PM

Take that, Trek fans! Now you will know the full pain that Star Wars fans have been through!! MUAHAHAHAHAH!

Oh, wait, I'm a fan of both...

I think this is a mistake in more than just principal. From what I understand, they are just going to duplicate the original effects with modern CGI techniques.

This sort of copying almost never inspires artists to produce good works.
