Heard this guy on the radio- he cited a case in MS where a teacher had a gun in his car and was able to stop a shooter from killing people in a school. He also cited other countries- Israel being on, do not recall the other.

I am not sure about this at all- I am not sure how comfortable I would be if my kids teachers had guns.

I grew up in a household that had guns- locked away somewhere where I could never find them. We would go target shooting- rarely.

My SO wants to own guns- and I am all skittish about it. Maybe if I learned more about having them, or handling them myself......but this idea of arming school officials worries me...

Yeah, bring MORE guns into the classroom. That will make the kiddies safe!

After all it's not like there are any psycho teachers out there...

ah, but they will have psych evals, background checks......

Hmmm, I guess WI is one of only two states that does not have a law that allows people to carry concealed weapons. It would be a similar arrangement.

It's hard. I would like the idea of a teacher being able to shoot a crazy person who comes in the school (schools might be easier targets because the shooter does not expect armed resistance) but.......

Just not sure.....at all.

with the teachers I've met and worked with personally and knowing what I do about guns and firearms in combat situations, armed teachers in a classroom full of kids is (one of) the last things I would ever think of as a 'good idea'.

taser? sprays? maybe...a BIG maybe....but guns? not only "no" but "773H no!"

how about some lessons in crisis management, a few alarms and monitoring equipment? hand to hand defensive techniques? even some lessons on hostage negotiations and surviving captive situations first.

I'd rather see a teacher in body armor willing to put themselves on the line before issuing weapons to any more people than already have them.

You know, one Teacher can't look after everyone, better give the students guns as well - for their own protection.

My dad kept his handguns in the top drawer of his dresser with his socks. I was told never to touch them, and I didn't although I went in his sock drawer a lot. (He kept his porn there.)

I think a bunch of armed teachers would lead to more teachers getting shot, both by the occasional nut who would take them out first and by the police who would not know who was who.

The Wisconsin fellow is just pandering; you can still support the Second Amendment and reject particular pro-gun idiocy.

I'd think they would be more likely end up being used by the criminals. Why go to the trouble of procuring a gun if you can use the one already there?

This is why although I have no problem with others owning guns, I don't want any in my house. It's more likely to be used on me than by me. Rather not take the chance.

FYI, it was proposed in the WI state legislature, he's not a US Congressman.

As for the proposal...as I said when I initially posted this story in the random political thoughts thread...there are how many hundreds of thousands of schools in this country and how many millions of students? And now this dude wants to form a militia because 3 of them had an incident? If those are the kinds of odds that warrant armed security, better arm every person in this country 'cause let me tell you your odds of getting shot at the gas station are probably better than getting shot at a school.
