Transfer of cassette tapes to CD

Okay, I have about a million bootleg opera cassettes I want to transfer to CD.
Anyone know the best way I can do this. I'm assuming running a cassette deck through my PC? Or is there a better way?

Likewise I have a few which are on VHS (recorded from radio broadcasts) and I've tried playing the VHS in to the DVD-R and all I get with that is a big fat black screen with nothing. I would have thought doing this one would have been simple, but I'm too simple minded to figure it out.

The easiest would be if you have an audio input port on your PC. But don't use the microphone jack as that's mono.

GD is correct (as usual), you will want to use Line-In, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Once you have recorded the data on your pc, you will need to convert it to a convenient format for your purposes. Do you intend to make audio cds that can play on most cd players? or MP3 cds?
