Marisa Monte

We're going to see her on Wednesday and I can't wait. Here's an NPR interview. Thanks MousPod for this spectacular recommendation.

What a great show, easily one of the top ten in terms of artist and audience energy. The crowd must have been 90% Brazillian, or close-enough-wanna-be Brazillian and had energy like you wouldn't believe. They rushed the stage for the encore, and danced in the aisles. I'd never seen another act accomplish that at the ecclectic yet stodgy Royce Hall. Marissa was clearly having a good time with the audience and that made the whole interaction all the better, singing along to the best of our ability and just marveling that a voice like hers actually exists. Sigh - now to pick up the rest of her catalogue...

As for myself, this was a perfect way to put what had been a crappy day at work behind me. The crowd before the show was full of beautiful Brazillian women all speaking Porteguese with that hypnotic soft "j." Add to that, a case of mistaken identity, as a woman ran up, hugged me, and kissed me on the check, asking if I remembered her from Jeff's, Flavia was her name and I racked my brain trying to think of all the Jeff's I knew and which one's would be keeping secret Brazillian friends. In the end she introduced to her husband Scott and we wished each other to enjoy the show. Lisa rolled her eyes when I told her, and I suppose I'll owe her one the next time we find ourselves amongst Scottsmen.
