Weather topsy turvy

According to the National Weather Service Todays high temp in my home town of Portland will be 36 degrees....the low 37 degrees.

I always thought the high would be the highest recorded temp durring the day and the low the lowest recorded temp.

Am I missing something.

Yes- snow. Lots and lots of snow. (just trying to share the joy; I woke up to a bunch more snow today.)

I'll gladly send you some as well. I hate this stuff.

I believe the high is the maximum daytime temperature, and the low is the minimum overnight temperature. So I suppose it would be possible, if for some reason it's expected to be warmer at night, you can have a predicted low higher than the predicted high.

At the moment it is showing 44 and 34.

But yeah, the high is the daytime high and the low is the overnight low, though it doesn't seem to me that the low could ever be higher than the high, just equal to each other. I would guess it was just a data glitch.

Probably a glitch; but the overnight low daytime high theory sounds possible too.

It is entirely possible - yesterday it was warmer overnight than it was during the day.

It was surreal seeing heavy snow at a Seahawk game. Of course that has more to do with their three decades as a dome team than my knowledge of Seattle weather patterns. I hate dome football.

Prudence 11-30-2006 07:44 PM

That snow was definitely surreal. It just dumped lots in a hurry - that rarely happens here.

wendybeth 11-30-2006 09:58 PM

I don't know, Pru- it seems like the weather in Seattle is changing. It rarely snowed in the past, and now it seems like you have several big snow and icestorms each season. Maybe Seattle should break down and invest in some winter weather equipment? Seems like Isaaquah and the Pass are the only areas ever ready to handle the white stuff.
