Oh, Mary!

Conservative "leaders" seem to be upset that Mary Cheney is preggers.

My favorite hateful, ignorant, prejudiced quote:
Quote:

Carrie Gordon Earll, a policy analyst for the conservative Christian ministry Focus on the Family, expressed empathy for the Cheney family but depicted the newly announced pregnancy as unwise.

"Just because you can conceive a child outside a one-woman, one-man marriage doesn't mean it's a good idea," said. "Love can't replace a mother and a father."
Love can't replace a mother and a father. So, hands up please, how many of you, who were in unhappy family situations growing up, found that a mother and a father were a good replacement for love?

It's Christmas time, and since there's no man in her life, this must be one of those virgin birth things I keep hearing about... Hail Mary!

Mary Cheney is having a Jew?

OK, here's where I will probably piss a lot of people off (unless they read past the first line):

The ideal parenting situation, with all other factors being equal, is to be raised by a man and woman in a stable, loving, married relationship.

The key part of that is "all other factors being equal."

That being said, there are a LOT of married people who should not be having children. And there are a LOT of non-traditional couples who would/do make great parents. The singulary most important thing a parent/parents can provide a child is love. Being in a male and female marriage does not automatically make one better prepared for that task.

On a lil bit of a derail - some of these same jackholes who bitch about people like Mary Cheney having a baby, get pissed off that people like Rose and I *aren't* having kids. Excuse me, but there are a lot of kids here who need love and support already; we've decided that at this time, we'll help them before having any kids of our own...

There are WAY too many children in foster care that need good homes. I hope what you are saying is that you and Rose are thinking about doing something like Foster care and/or adopting. Susan and I will be doing that when we grow up.

Then there are losers like me who want kids and a family but just can't find a woman that can stand the sight of me, let alone want build a life with me. That said, people spend too much time figuring out what other should have, should be and should do. If people were soo much up in arms about homeless kids, kids in abusive situation, in orphanages and things of that sort, they would quite bitching and do something about it.

Its so sad to hear about this stuff...

I think someone just misused the turkey baster at Thanksgiving.

there are tons and tons (and tons) of "traditional" couples who shouldn't even be allowed in the same room together, let alone to be married and raising kids, this is minor...just more notable and somewhat ironic.

I hope that kid grows up to know that Mother Mary sat by and did nothing to help the gay community while the administration she worked for reeked with homophobia.

Also, it should be noted that Mary calls her parter "her wife".

Oy.
