Start spreading the news....

So, plans have changed and due to bar exam dates and the like our moot court regional competition thingy will be in... Brooklyn. Feb 22-24. The event hotel is the Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge.

I've never been to NY. I have no idea what my schedule is, other than meeting at 4:30 on the 22nd, awards at 6:30 on the 24th, and 3-5 rounds of oral argument in between. BT is probably going to come with me. (If I pay for his half of the room, then I don't have to share with a teammate.)

What should we try to do, given that the schedule will be somewhat up in the air? (I won't know if we're doing more than 3 rounds until they happen and we get scored.)

Well, this is very close to where you are staying and fantastic.

It's getting close to departure day - anyone else have any advice for us? We're planning on visiting ground zero on Thursday and the statute of liberty/ellis island (if there's time) on Friday. We have arguments Thursday evening and Friday evening and Saturday starting in the morning and ending as we get knocked out. That leaves Wednesday evening (without Ryan), Saturday at some point, and Sunday morning/afternoon to fill up.

I'm especially looking for cheap - but tasty - eats. Shopping and sights, as well.

(And I confess that as I was arranging a furniture delivery tonight I got a little thrill from being able to say "no, I'll be in new york that week." I'm sure as time goes on and the trips accumulate that thrill will fade to a strong annoyance.)

My cheap, but tasty, eats:

Peanut Butter and Company - the seating area is small, but the food is really tasty.

burger joint in Le Parker Meridian hotel (go through the front, and hang a left right past the check-in desk) - excellent burgers in a place that looks like a throwback to the 70s. The menu is basic: burgers, fries, shakes and sodas.

Le Pain Quotidien is a chain in NYC, but it's really tasty. The chain started in Belgium, so the outlets have a very European cafe feel.

Brooklyn has a lot of eateries, but I've never been over there. I would suggest checking out the TimeOut NY eating guide.

I'm actually going to be down in NY on that Friday night (2/23) for a friend's birthday party.

Also (and seriously), if you are up in Manhattan and have a hankerin' for ribs, try Virgil's. If I ever make it back to NYC, this is a must for me.

What the heck is up with the NY restaurants and the cash only?!

I prefer Blue Smoke for BBQ. Plus they have some seriously hot waiters!

I went to Luger's once and I am still in awe.

Check out Herald Square if you like the shopping and street scene. You have Macy's and the Empire State Bldg right there too.

For food - look for Famous Famiglia Pizza. You can find the most amazing Pizza by the slice! Ray's is pretty good too. There is Original Ray's, Famous Original Ray's, and many other derivations of Ray's pizza.

When in Brooklyn, go to Juniors on Flatbush for good deli food and INCREDIBLE cheesecake!!

And the matzaball soup you find at any kosher deli is better than anything you will find out here.

JUNIOR'S!!! (my mouth is watering)

I've thankfully been away for so long that I can't recommend anything to eat.

Just don't miss Central Park. And the best views of the city are from the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge and the top of the RCA Building in Rockefeller Center.
