Six Flags Spares Magic Mountain From Theme Park Sell-Off

The owner of Magic Mountain said Thursday it would continue operating the roller coaster theme park and its adjacent Hurricane Harbor water park in Valencia, excluding the properties from a $312 million theme park sell-off.

The move by New York-based Six Flags Inc., ends months of speculation on the fate of Magic Mountain, which last year appeared like it might be among a several theme parks destined for the auction block.

Six Flags announced Thursday it would sell seven of its 30 North American parks in a bid to improve its debt-laden balance sheet.

Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor will remain open for business this year and beyond, the company said. .

The company has blamed that attendance drop in large part to uncertainty about the park's future.

Nothing was mentioned about the crappy employees, the shadey atmosphere or the shoddy look of the park, of course…

I was blue-sky dreaming about someone buying it and fixing it up. Oh well, I guess it's better than being torn down. Hopefully they'll put some money into what they don't sell. Riiiiight.

SFMM was never up for sale in the first place...

The owners said it would be considered, and they did have some interested parties.

In a conference call several months ago, officials even said that if Magic Mountain was sold, it would be to be sold as a continuing operation; not for real estate development.

But of course, the people reporting the "news" could never get that part right.

Bummer, I'd really like to be able to drive down there without having to see it.

I've never been there (since I'm not a big ride person, just a big person, I haven't much interest) but think it is pretty ugly from a distance.

Just so long as the Del Taco at that exit doesn't close they can do whatever they want, though. That is the last Del Taco for 250 miles (next one is in Santa Nella).

It was funny, on the news they showed the Six Flags MM sign and it was all faded and peeling. Just like the rest of the park. After being spoiled by DL, I was noticing the badly maintained or sparce landscaping, poor paint and wood upkeep, and trash all over the place. I keep saying "Disney wouldn't let this happen!". Then when DL started to look shabby I'd say, "This place is starting to look like Six Flags!". owever, DL at it's worse was never as bad as SFMM on an average day.....
