State of the Union Address

So who's going to watch tonight?

I might have to tune in for a bit just to see Mr. Bush twisting in the wind. I also want to see how much division there is within his own party. The applause shots are always good for that.

Does anyone know who is going to give the response this year?

Alex 01-23-2007 05:23 PM

I believe it is James Webb giving the response (I heard the person being interviewed on NPR this morning -- "I don't intend to give a partisan response...I will highlight the Democrats' disagreement with is Iraq policy" is what I remember and think it was Webb but now I'm doubting myself.

Oh, and I don't plan to watch. I generally read the transcripts because watching is too focused on how well he says it (particularly in the analysis) and not enough on what is said).

Democrats are trying to drown out President George Bush's State of the Union message by making clear he and his Republican allies are no longer in charge of national policy, especially on Iraq.

"They don't have a plan," Democratic Senator Jim Webb told reporters in a preview of his party's response to Bush's speech. "What they have put on the table is more a tactical adjustment."

Democrats have not agreed on a plan for Iraq either, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the burden of finding a solution rests on the White House.

"The president is the commander in chief. We don't have the authority" to execute a plan for bringing American troops home from Iraq, Reid said.
Wait- he's not in charge.

But.....it's his job to find a solution?

Utter fools.

Jesus still loves you, Nephy :)

Nephythys 01-23-2007 05:36 PM

Loves them too- good thing, because I don't.

Seriously- idiots. Do they KNOW how idiotic they sound???

Every day since then, the Democrats have hammered home the message that achieving bipartisanship must be as much a part of Bush's agenda as proposals on the war, energy independence and healthcare.
Oh-you mean like the way the dems silenced the GOP when they took Congress? Bi-partisan to a dem means you do what they want- and shut up like a good pet.

Gah!

I'm not going to watch. I can't bear listening to the man speak.

Not Afraid 01-23-2007 05:39 PM

If I watch, my eyes may get stuck in a rolling motion.

The Dems just took over Congress, and I don't think the Repubs have been too terribly silent about ****.

If you're going to watch - maybe this/ will make it easier.
