Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro Euthanized

How sad. He fought against the odds like the champion he was. The news just broke.

This totally bums me out, I was pulling for a miracle.:(

I'm glad they finally made that decision instead of continuing to torture him with painful procedures with little hope of success.

Oh that is sad. A real pity.

RIP Barbaro, heart of a champion. :(

:(

He was my lucky horse for the Derby... Too bad I got ballsy and went for a boxed bet with another horse. Should have gone with my lucky number 8.

I agree completely.

The owners said at the outset that they would continue to treat him aggressively as long as they were able to manage his pain and quality of life (relative to the injury). I give them credit for considering more than his monetary value in their decision making. (Including at the outset when it would have been more "valuable" to euthanize him right away and collect the insurance.)

I'm still bummed.

I haven't been keeping up on the horse's current state, but if he was continuing to have painful complications as a result of his injury and there was no positive outlook, then they made the right decision. But, it is a sad decision none the less.
