Disney hates poor people

I'm not so sure Disney thought this one through. The company is suing the city of Anaheim because...they're building low income housing in the area.

"This lawsuit speaks to how important we view this Anaheim resort area and that we make sure the vision sticks," said Disneyland spokesman Rob Doughty.

But here's the paragraph from the article that I LOVE and shows that the author is tuned in to what's going on...

Quote:

Walt Disney himself complained that soon after he opened Disneyland in 1955 the area outside the park became filled with fast-food restaurants, cheap hotels, ugly neon signs and ticky-tack tourist attractions. The area now also includes California Adventure.

PWNAGE!!

flippyshark 02-28-2007 11:28 PM

I spent about a minute trying to figure out PWNAGE as an acronym, then I looked it up in the Urban Dictionary. (I have to do that a lot lately, ...*sigh*)
So, it's not really an acronym at all, turns out.

Anyway, I think the price menus above the ticket booths amply demonstrate Disney's lack of empathy with the less fortunate. If I didn't work for them, I'd never be able to go.

Since Flippy couldn't be bothered to actually share what it meant (I had no clue either), from Urban Dictionary.com

Pure Ownage as used in online gaming to stress your superiority on all levels. Spawned from the root word pwn, which originated as a misspelling of the word own. Hence this stupid word is two screw-ups away from anything close to english.

Morrigoon 02-28-2007 11:57 PM

Anyone else see great irony in dictionary-style entries written by people who actually use the word pwn?

The way things are going for me I may not be able to renew my pass, and then I'll be peering in the gates like Walt did as a kid, unable to afford to go in.....:(

Wow. If Disney wants less poor people around the resort area, they should PAY THEIR EMPLOYEES BETTER.

In other words, they're building CM housing?

Off Topic: It's fairly common slang, even outside of gaming. Of course, I know about it because I am such a geek, but I hear people using it at CSULB all the time when I'm passing by.

On Topic: It is kind of sad, however, it plays into how Disney has behaved all along. I, too, get a kick out of the author's sense of humor on California Adventure. :snap:
