I thought Disneyland was on fire!!

I smell smoke! There is ash falling all around like snow flurries!

I look out my back door, and in the exact same area where I see the fireworks from Disneyland, there is a large plume of smoke rising up into the air and blowing directly overhead!

I go out onto Brookhurst and turn right onto Katella. The smoke is rising up right where Disneyland is! Is Disnyland on fire??!!

I drive up Katella and as I approach Disnyland Drive it becomes clear it's past Disneyland. Whew! I drive on a little further, up to the 405 offramp. It looks like the fire is in Anaheim Hills.

I turn around to go to Albertsons, with a sigh *cough* of relief *choke*! The sky is dark with a red glow, visibility becomeing limited at times. The tempurature is 86* with mild Santa Ana winds (which is why the smoke is blowing directly over us rather than rising up into the air).

On the news they show houses with rooftops on fire and people housing them down. They confirm it is indeed Anaheim Hills. I hope they get this put out quick, and no more houses catch fire. When will people learn not to have wood shingle roofs in the hills of Southern California???

Here's a picture:

Indeed it is Anaheim Hills. According to this story, two homes have been destroyed so far.

If DL burns down before my visit I am going to be very upset.(I hope things settle down, RS- I know how quickly fires can get out of control when the wind kicks in!)

No fires up here, but I think the Chinooks are finally coming through. It's been a windy but somewhat warm day.

i've been very sick and barely have enough energy to roll over in bed... but, the helicopters have kept me very nervous all day. one of my drug induced dreams was witnessing a small firefighting aircraft tumble out of control to the hillside behind me.

it looks like firefighters have a handle on it now.

here is an updated story.

Wow, thanks for the updates! It's amazing how fast you can get information and news these days!

Oy, tell me about it. I really wasn't sure where it was coming from over here in Huntington Beach, but the skies were suddenly orange. I hate that feeling, looked to the sky, and went to the news websites.

Yipes!

I was a DLR for a little while this morning and the smoke was just starting. There were some other people on the tram hurrying home as it was near their neighborhood.

I was at the park today, and around 3 PM, ash just started pouring from the sky, and it smelled awful. I think they got it under control, though, since it seemed fine about an hour later.

RStar 03-11-2007 10:03 PM

I think it is under control now. At least the wind, smoke, ash, and odor all dissapated.

Kevy Baby 03-12-2007 06:52 AM

As of the news a few minutes ago, it is 30% contained and they expect full containment sometime tomorrow.
