Lookup addresses by phone number on Google
Just heard about this little annoyance this morning.
By entering someone's phone number in a Google search, it will return their address. Kinda scary that someone could find me that easily. I immediately requested that my info needed to be withheld (you can do that very easily). And I've been told that if you are unlisted, your address will not show up. (BTW, enter the phone number with area code, but without the 1 or dashes.) |
This is old news. And it's been around longer than the internet. Reverse phone bookes are available at just about any public library.

Yeah, I didn't know Google was doing this directly, but if you just typed in Reverse Lookup, it would bring up a site that would do it for you...

We had our number removed from google several years ago, but it would still pop up on the yahoo search. Still does.....only that was our old house. We never had our address listed in the phone book, so we didn't have to deal with the address stuff being out there.
But our new number? The one we've had for 18 months...still shows the old owner of the phone number and their address. :D |

It will also pop up a map directly to your house.
This was part of how my on-line stalker found me. He also used systems at work (he works for SBC too but in San Ramon) to get info on me. When I finally changed my number I was allowed to have a non-published number (a no-no for employees). If he had made any attempt to call me on the new number I would have proof that he found it through the systems at work and he would be fired. The thing with the listed numbers is once they are out there they are everywhere. Every site that has a phone directory will also have your number. It is impossible to remove it from everywhere. |
Verizon does this too.
