Anonymous Theatre

One of the Portland theatre community's big annual events was earlier this week - the 6th Anonymous Theatre!

Picture this...auditions are held. Private auditions.

The show is cast secretly. Not even the actors know who is in the show with them.

Rehearsals are run on a one-on-one basis. No one meets anyone else, but work with the director alone.

More than 600 people fill the theatre. No names are listed in the program. The overture plays. The cast is known only when they make their entrances - from the audience - upon their first lines. Hilarity ensues.

Monday was AT's first attempt at a musical. The chosen work - "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum". It was a blast! Three people I've worked with were in the show, and I knew more. It was a train wreck at times, but the most entertaining train wreck you've ever seen!

see you at the zoo

Oh I love it!!! That alone is a worthy reason to visit the PNW (not that there aren't other reasons!).

Awesomeness! I did some searching to see if anyone else does it, and the answer is no. :( I wish I could see that.

What a great show to do as AT, how I wish I could have been there to see it. Must have been really hysterical!

It's starting to catch on, CP. The organizers have been in contact with a company in the midwest who want to try it, and a company in Australia is actually flying one of them over to help them set it up!
