SoCal Tattoo Parlors
My friend and her sisters are going to SoCal in about a month. One of the sisters wants to get a tattoo while they're down there.
Does anyone have any good suggestions? I think they're staying around the Los Angeles city area. |
Might they travel down to San Diego? If so, I can ask my daughter where she gets hers. He does pretty good work. Wait, I should say 'very' good work. {pretty good isn't good enough for a tatt!!}

San Diego is too far :( If your daughter's guy does good work, could there be an L.A. recommendation?

I will ask her when she gets home....

'Jade Tattoo' in San Diego...
Miami Ink~ Chris Garber /Cat Von B in L.A. But she thinks they might be hard to get a hold of. Anywho, the place in San Diego, http://www.tattooandpiercinggallery.com/ might be able to refer you to a site with pictures of their work. I was looking at the site and my daughters tatts are on there!! Cool. :cool: |
Susan get's her ink at Trigger Happy Tattoo in La Habra (about a 20 minute drive north of Disneyland). The owner (whose name escapes me at the moment) is who does her work. She has a vine growing up her leg (currently starting at her foot and up to her knee) with a dragon intermixed in (and a small hidden Mickey).

Sunset Strip Tattoo in Hollywood (?) is pretty famous. I got my purple panther there on my 18th bday.

If she's just decided she wants to get a tattoo while she is someplace without really having a reason for doing it in that place (a particular artist) then I would be concerned that not enough thought has gone into getting it.
There's nothing magical about tattoos received in Los Angeles. Where she goes should be informed by both personal recommendations and what kind of tattoo is being sought (if it is just flash that can be done anywhere, talk her out of it). If it is a complex piece I'd generally recommend Pat Fish up in Santa Barbara (not knowing style it is really hard to be specific; Pat does great work generally but is fantastic with Celtic designs), but if San Diego is too far, so is Santa Barbara. So I guess the first question is does she know what she wants? I asked Lani and all of the people she'd recommend are not the kind you just walk in on (several month waiting lists) and are definitely not the destination for flash. Lani used to be the primary maintainer of the comprehensive rec.arts.bodyart FAQ. With the decline of USENET it isn't much maintained anymore but most of the fundamental information is still accurate and the Artists section is still maintained. That includes reviews from the rec.arts.bodyart newsgroup of various artists around the country including some in L.A. |

Even her artist, well, they make appointments pretty far in advance all the while working on the idea she has and he comes back with his idea...it is a long process. Especially considering she isn't his only client. Anywho, she is under Keith, I think...there are only two artist for the Hillcrest location....two are hers...Mr & Mrs. Frankenstein.... |
I think she has an idea. She just wants to get on in LA if she can. But if she can't, she won't be too upset.
