Celebration suggestions needed.
So.
I have a big birthday coming up. My twenties are drawing to a close. I really have no idea what I want to do. Nice restaurant, just me and the husband? Nah, thankfully, we get to do that a lot. Big crazy party at my place? Nah, did that for the housewarming not too long ago. Some sort of swanky outing with swanky friends? Maybe, but it has to be really special.... Yeah, I'm a picky bastard, and now I'm running out of time. I'd love to celebrate it with a large group in an interesting way but I'm no good at coming up with ideas. I could totally go with a smaller group too, but that means deciding a guest list, and with so many cool people in my life, that's a tough call. Complication - I'm slated to work that Saturday until 6pm. We're understaffed at the moment, and we'll have just opened two weeks before, so that would be extremely hard for me to wiggle out of. :( I already fear I've waited too long, as we're less than a month away, and now the other possibilities are piling up. Snowflake will be in town (yay!)and there's that LA Modernism show JW just posted about, which looks awesome, but with Snowflake's meet on Sunday and my work schedule, I can't possibly go. :( I'm totally hapless at the moment. Ideas, suggestions, advice - no matter how crazy - are all appreciated. I might just stay home and let it pass....it's less bother. :) |

You should definitely do something that you'll remember. How about something really unusual like a picnic or going sailing? (with friends, of course)

Hmmmm - you know, I can't seem to remember my 30th - it was before the internet and much less documented as my 40th, which I do remember quite well.
My suggestion is don't be a slave to the date - Have a nice dinner with Greg, throw a big party, have a swanking, have a week long celebration, spend at least a few nights in a swanky hotel, etc. If Disney can celebrate it's 50th for 18 months, you can certainly celebrate your 30th on more than just the day. |
Get all your friends together, dress in authentic 1890s swimwear and go to the some popular beach for the day where you'll play croquet.

You could have an orgy.
One of the thoughts that I had for Susan's party was the possibility of renting out the party room at Lucky Strike Lanes at the Block. However, it is a tad pricey. I know the Saturday night rate was $600 per hour (plus catering). Beyond that; well, you know how much trouble I had incoming up with something for Susan's 40th. |
Do something different.
Pick something that is something you've always wanted to do and do it. I did a 1930's French Riviera costume party at the Beach for one of my past BD's. I also had a "Beatnik Party" one year. |
Have you thought about dinner theater? It is a bit more costly, but a lot of fun. There's Medieval Times,
the new Pirates-Dinner-Adventure-Theater down the street form it, as well as: Joey & Maria's Comedy Italian Wedding 800-944-5639 You will dance, sing, eat and laugh as a guest at an anything-but-traditional Italian wedding. Performances are every weekend. Best Western Courtesy Inn - Anaheim Or Brain Brew - Murder Mystery Party |
Wow. Orgy at the bowling alley. That's creative!
