Because being in Iraq or Afghanistan didn't suck enough...

The military is blocking YouTube, Photobucket, MySpace, and some other sites. Yeah, because soldiers seeing videos of their kids is apparently slowing traffic on their network. |
Oh no, now they'll have to resort to, OMG, email!
|
Couldn't be because of adverse publicity or some such thing, could it? Of course, the military probably has a hell of a time censoring like they used to do.

It could be preemptive security issues also. Anyplace someone can post a photo or video could be a leak if someone recognizes the background. Also it could have to do with the bandwidth. Not everywhere they go is wired, and i am sure a lot of it is satellite feeds, which are not cheap and those site can suck the bandwidth. That and there is so much crap in the background of myspace I understand why the military wants to block it. I have seen myspace take down windows boxes and the last thing the military needs is to explain that soldiers died because of Myspace. :P

That's pretty much the reason that YouTube, MySpace, and PhotoBucket are blocked for me at work.
And nobody's life is depending on my network stability. |
hey they can always log onto the "LOT"!!!
