One Small Step for Medicine

CA Supreme Court declined to hear a challenge to the Stem Cell Research Proposition. Link here

nice. beyond the medical advances now in the offing, if anything I like the idea of an influx of employment opportunities here in CA that other states sadly just lost out on.

Funding research that may actually help save human life and decrease suffering. How horrible! It must be stopped immediately! We must protect the little blobs of tissue at all costs!

Yeah, who cares if we step onto the slippery slope of human cloning?

Don't get me wrong - I am in favor of stem cell research. I just don't think that it is a simple decision to be taken lightly.

I didn't know you were fluent in doublespeak.

So... Publicly funding research = influx of employment opportunities

That's like saying:

Military Deployment = open ended travel possibility's with cultural exchange opportunities

I'm not keen on the government funding of it and don't really hold high expectations for it being the panacea they hope.

Nor do I think it will ever prove to be a net financial positive for California that it has been sold as (it isn't like California is an an employment crisis and the people employed by these projects are not the ones who have difficulty finding work).

I also don't approve of the initiative process that brought this entity into existence.

But it is a moral decision that was made through the democratic process so I agree with letting it go forward. Even if it is likely a boondoggle.

publicly funded employment is still employment.

research scientists and board of directors aside, there will be a positive increase in the (service industry, etc) employment in support of it. regardless of who sucks the teet of the initial billions ( and undoubtedly make a ton of $ from it ), there are those who NEED those lesser jobs that will benefit from having those programs in the state.

You still miss the point the baby it just wants and wants and will cry when it wants more... It doesn't care what pair it's taking from... it just so happens it's the spirit of California's milk sacks as personified by Whoppie Goldberg that its sucking hard on, and that strikes me as just gross.

Absent any actual comprehension let me just say that I agree wholeheartedly and without reservation but for some obvious caveats.
