Pirates 3: At World's End

I know no one's seeing the movie till tomorrow night at the Park, but it's inevitable this film, riffing as it does off the classic Disneyland attraction, deserves a thread of its own ... and not merely movie musings in the omnibus thread.

I don't know if anyone here is going to the Park premiere tomorrow, or even just to ogle stars on the Main Street red carpet. I'm not even planning on seeing the film till it's out on DVD. But I had an interesting tidbit of a story I thought I should share.

My ex-girlfriend, Kelly, works at a small record label. One of their clients is a good friend of Johnny Depp's. So tonight, he walks into their office (the friend, not Depp) with a beautiful, hand-crafted, custom-made guitar that's a gift from Keith Richards to Johnny Depp, which the friend is bringing over to Johnny's house tonight to present to him.

I just thought if anyone's going to the red carpet, you could try shouting out "Hey, Johnny, how'd you like Keith's Guitar Gift yesterday?!?!" - rather than, say, "Oooooh, we love you, Johnny!" ... and that might work better to grab his attention, and even stop to ask you how in hell you knew that.

The guitar has a pirate somethingorother on the back, so if you get a chance to talk to him, you can show off your psychic abilities and know that he'll be thinking of you quizzically thoughout the evening, and even later that night (or morning) when he gets home ... and sees the guitar.

;)

I'll keep that in mind as I'm crammed uncomfortably into the press photographer pit tomorrow.

I thankfully have talked Madz out of the red carpet. Last time was amazing, she got about 30 autographs. But it was also madness at the end, and I can't imagine that will improve. Plus how does one improve upon this shot?

Maddy getting Johnny's autograph. Swanie and I spent days on the internet looking for this photo.

I'm making no special plans to run out and see it, but why are you waiting for the DVD? Is it some form of a protest or you just aren't interested in it?

Cool story, by the way.

We are going to a midnight showing at El Capitan next Thursday night/Friday morning.

Hee hee...I can think of an improvement on that shot...:p

I think that comment would get more attention and I'd also rather say something like that than 'I love you Johnny!!' {I'll save that for another time...;) }

Agh! This reminds me I wanted the kids to get me a ticket to join them for the movies early showing.

Alex, how cool is that? I mean, you don't make it sound so comfy but seriously, much better than being crammed in with everyone else trying to get a shot. {if you want them}

It's an interesting experience to shoot red carpets but I don't know that I'd say it is fun. They are extremely pushy, and can be extremely rude. They can be funny too, but they're livelihood is hoping to sell a couple of the photos they take. And then the person you think maybe had a bit part in Numb3rs spends 40 hours standing right in front of you while Tom Hanks scurries by in 2.3 seconds.

Plus, for an event this big I'm a third class press citizen and will be treated accordingly.

I'm going Saturday (Opening weekend) over at El Cap. Not expecting much since #2 sucked and I've already took a peek at the "storybook" version and I"m not at all pleased with what I see.

I've never been a part of those trying to take pics to sell, but I've been a part of the crowd of fans whoa re just as pushy. When we went to see Johnny's hand and footprint ceremony, this one guy just slithered his way into the front pushing my friend to the back. We were soooo irritated, but hey we got Johnny's autograph, and some great pics nonetheless.

I have to say Johnny is the nicest celebrity and takes care of his fans :)
