Corn Dog Redux

There was a thread about corn dogs a while back, but I recently had an experience which compels me to reintroduce the topic.

Since last October, I have made some major changes to my eating habits, and deep fried foods were vetoed from my menu. Sadly, that means no corn dogs.

A couple of days ago, I was shopping and saw, in the frozen section, a box of Morningstar Farms meatless corn dogs. Now, I'm still carnivorous, but I noted that these were low in fat and generally healthy, so I decided to risk a purchase.

I took them home and popped one in the oven. (350? for 20 minutes) I am here to tell you, it was tasty! The texture was just right, and the whole thing just made me feel like I was at the county fair. I was so happy, I sang once again the Corn Dog Song I made up in my childhood. For those of you who missed it, it goes something like this:

Corny corny corn dog bouncing down the stairs
Corny corny corn dog, you're the answer to my prayers

Just thought you all should know.

If a corn dog is the answer to all your prayers, I'm terrified to think what your prayers might be...

I may have to get these for my son. He eats corn dogs like crazy, if you let him. It sounds like a little healthier version for him.

There is nothing like a corn dog from the county fair! A nice crispy, freshly fried corn dog, Mmmm. Ok, now I'm hungry!

This is weird! Kat and I have craved corn dogs all weekend.

Now I really really want one!

Corn dogs. meh. I'll pass. Now what my family really wants me to make are Holiday Hot Dogs. We too have a song for them that goes like this:

Holiday Hotdog (HotDog!)
Holiday Hotdog (HotDog!)
Mustard and ketchup (hotdog!)
onions and relish (hotdog!)
holiday hotdog (hotdog!)

rinse and repeat

Now what's odd is that there are no ketchup, onions, mustard or relish on these.

These are those little mini-weiners that you put in a pot with grape jelly and chili sauce and simmer until they are delish - I go on to add a few dashes or hot sauce and/or red chili flakes for a kick. Then you spear them with a toothpick and sing the song.

Mmmm.... Holiday hotdog.

That's good. Did you know that you missed the state fair once again?

Betty, those sound gooood. :) And any food with a theme song has to be fantastic anyway.

I'm glad Flippy got his fix. Nothing will break a diet decision more than a particular craving.

P.S. When I first saw this thread title, I thought it said "Corn Dog Reflux."
