Top 100 Gadgets of all times

Mobile PC Mag has a list of the top 100 gadgets of all time.

I've owned 26 of them. Can anyone beat that record?

Matterhorn Fan 02-22-2005 03:22 PM

Let's see . . .

20 if you don't interpret the list strictly (e.g., I've had a VCR, but not the model they listed).

Biggest revelation: My gadget days seem to have ended around the same time as my Lite Brite days. Oh, and a MasterLock is a "gadget." Didn't know that.

Hard to rate. For example, is "telephone" restricted to the 1976 model or does any telephone count? I played with lots of those things and friends' houses, but my family didn't believe in computers as entertainment (they're TOOLS! for WORK!) so no Atari for us. :( Although we did have the Radio Shack knock-off of Pong. I'm still bitter that my brother got a LightBrite (a gift from a non-family member) and I didn't. They were so cool! But they didn't pass the repeatability test so no dice. Depending on what counts, I had about 15 (including an abacus!)

Yeah, counting variations rather than the original, I think I'm between 25 and 30. If we stick to original, more like 10-15 (I stopped really counting because of the confusion of what counts).

What we really need is a gadget that can count the gadgets for us...

Yeah, it's tough to count. If one could count non-originals of the same item, I was up to about 60% (I didn't finish the list either).

And although you may think I am joking, I am very serious when I say that the vibrator (AKA "personal massager) should be in the top 20 at least. Specifically, the Hitachi "Magic Wand"

37...but it is not using exactly the same models for all...I was shocked to see my 1979 Sony Walkman and my rootbeer colored Motorola Bravo pager

Oooh. Speak and Spell. I used to love that - even if I couldn't always understand it.

Ahhh yes, it was always fun having it say things like: "May I do you from behind?".

Good times to be sure.
