Next Bond Even More Gay?

Sony just announced that the director of the next James Bond movie, due out in December of 2008, will be Marc Forster, the helmer of such films as Finding Neverland, Stranger Than Fiction, and Monsters Ball.

Some of you may recall that the last Bond film, featuring the debut of Daniel Craig in the role, was a bit gayer than its predecessors.

Instead of silhouetting nubile young girls in the opening title sequence, a tradition for 40 years ... Casino Royale instead acknowleged what has been the truth about the series from the get-go - - that the real sex appeal was all about Bond. And so silhouettes of Bond in action were the order of the day for the excellent title sequence of Casino Royale.

That film also featured Daniel Craig's homage to Ursula Andress as he sexed up the screen by rising out the ocean in a skimpy swimsuit, just as 'Honey Rider' did in the first Bond film way back in 1962.

And so I can only surmise that a gay director will bring an even gayer sensiblity to the James Bond franchise.

I can hardly wait.

I don't have any particular information that Mr. Forster is homosexual, but after listening to his running commentary on the Finding Neverland DVD, there's no doubt in my mind.

you forgot how they were talking to Marry Kate and Ashely Olsen to be bond girls... yea, how exciting...

However, a gay director of mostly mediocre movies (and one really, really bad one) may not be a great sign.

More naked Daniel Craig please!

Yeah, but some of them were good based on the number of people who saw it (invisible winking smilie).

Which ones would that be? Finding Neverland is financially his most successful and it barely reached $50 million.

Running with Scissors and Monster's Ball are $10 and $20 million behind that respectively. Stay bombed completely (and really deserved it) not reaching $4 million.

So by that measure he is still a director of mediocre movies.

I was taking a wild-assed guess. Seems I am wrong (I thought Finding Neverland did better).

Popularity being in the eyes of the beholder (as proven in some other thread), I have a different take on it ... having liked Monsters Ball, Stay, Stranger Than Fiction -and- most of all, Finding Neverland.

Of course, none of those were particularly gay ... so perhaps I've got my hopes up for nada re the next Bond film.
