Concept car....or hoax?

Check out this eBay entry. Make sure to watch the video.

So? Real or not? It seems way too smooth and perfect to be real...hmmm.

Awfully elaborate hoax... I suspect it's real.

BarTopDancer 07-09-2007 10:19 PM

No idea. On one hand that would have to be an amazing (but not impossible) editing job. On the other, the seller has feedback that would be silly to risk on a hoax.

I think it's real. Here's a patent, from the google patent search for a similar design for a minivan by Joalto Design:

That's a groovy car...

I would buy that right now...... if only the Drivers door worked. :(

How cool. I don't see why it wouldn't/couldn't be real. It's basically the same concept as the sliding door of a minivan, but it slides in a differnet direction. As long as you didn't drive with the door open I think it would work. Would make for some low clearance. My major question about it would be safety. How heavy and reinforced could that door be?

Supposedly they engineered this because the door was so big and heavy that they didn't want drivers to have to swing the thing back and forth. What bugs me right off is the lack of armrest - it seems so weird. The fact that the one door isn't working is not surprising, as that's a lot to keep going, and since it's a concept you can't exactly take it to your local 76 station for repair.

But wow, is that awesome.

you could make it have auto-fold armrests easy enough. yeah, I think its real enough. the problem being there isnt enough room under the car for two of those doors at once I think.

you'll likely start seeing these on some elite supercars, limos and other one offs, but I think it'll be a bit before theyre mass produced.
