Worldcon 2006

I just noticed that the World Science Fiction Convention 2006 is in Anaheim!

Sci-Fi and Disneyland, now that's a twofer! Sounds like I need to plan a road trip. Anyone got any plans for Aug 23-27 2006?

Is the Anaheim Hilton or Marriott better and/or closer to DLR?

Sighs quietly to self...

One year. Exactly one year to go.

The Anaheim Convention Center, Hilton and Marriott basically form a triangular shape and are located right next to each other. They're all directly south, across the street, from the Disneyland Resort.

I've only stayed at the Hilton, but you probably couldn't go wrong with the Marriott either. The Hilton is directly north of the Marriott, making the Hilton half a block closer to Disneyland, but the distance is not too significant. (However, if you've been on your feet all day, the Hilton will feel closer when you're walking back to your hotel.) Also, if you're lucky enough to get a room at the Hilton with a window facing north, you can see a little bit of Disneyland's tall structures in the far distance.

To reach the Disneyland Resort from the Anaheim Convention Center, Hilton or Marriott, you would simply walk north across the street (Katella Avenue), enter the DLR's opening/path into the Timon Parking Lot, and take the Timon/Lion King Tram to the Esplanade/Main Entry Plaza.

The con is quoting a $99/night rate for either place but it looks like the Marriott might be more central to the convention itself. Although now that I think about it (looking back on my own misspent youth) that might be a very good reason to pick the Hilton.

Yep, we bought our Worldcon memberships about a year ago. The last Worldcon I went to was in about '95 or so, when it was in Anaheim!

You might even concider using the hotel's shuttle buses to the Esplanade of the DLR. I'm not sure what kind of time schedule they run on, but it beats walking if you have trouble with that.
