:( Grew up watching KTLA nearly nightly.

Aww, I didn't know he was ill.

I heard they based Kent Brockman on him.

My family watched him every single night. Another end of an era. :( He was the best, I always thought.

I guess I still have to get used to the fact that all my childhood heroes will go sometime.

real shame, he was typically on too late for me to watch... but is still a classic.

Not to mention one of the longest news reporters in American history and great role model. He will be missed.

Either last week or the week before I caught him saying goodbye on the 10pm news. I thought he was retiring...

Awww, Hal Fishman was really one of my favorites... It's strange, for all the people we've said our RIPs over, Hal Fishman is one that really breaks my heart. He was the first face I watched when I was younger, and I always thought he was the classiest. You never really could tell where his political leanings were, and I thought that was great. With his editorials, I felt they were more common sense than anything else, even the few times I didn't agree with him.

We in Southern California were very lucky to have had him.

RIP

Sad news indeed. I loved watching his newscasts.

wow - he was such a staple. I used to watch his newscasts almost every night for years. I liked how he'd get pissed when they'd break into the news for some stupid car chase. He'd always want to get back to the "news."

RIP Fishman :(

Yeah, I was really bummed this morning when I heard. He was one of the best. I didn't always agree with his editorials, but I ALWAYS respected him and his focus on the important news (and not the fluff).

In a subsequent discussion, I was reminded of another long-timer: Stan Chambers. I heard his words on Hal and about how Stan had respect for Hal's integrity. And to think: Stan Chambers has been with KTLA since 1943 (if I heard correctly).
