RIP CBGB Hilly Kristal

Okay, I was never in the punk scene (d'uh) but this passing is well worth noting.

I hope there is a great party going on wherever you've landed.

Bon Voyage

I felt that "passing of an era" feeling when CBGBs closed last year. This just puts a sad capper on it. I feel old all of a sudden. :(

Me, too. RIP, Hilly.

I felt that same way when the Quizno's closed at the Glendale mall.

Reviving this dead thread (no pun intended, really)

The CBGB club is now a designer warehouse, sorta.

[size="5"]Fashion designer moves into N.Y. club CBGB's space

Quote:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The punk spirit of CBGB lives on, but it has cleaned up its act.

Menswear fashion designer John Varvatos has opened his newest boutique in the space that once housed the famed underground music club CBGB, where popular acts such as Blondie, Television, The Ramones and Patti Smith played.

Varvatos has preserved much of CBGB's poster- and graffiti-covered walls and recreated some of its gritty mood with dark wood, Victorian-style crystal chandeliers, velvet curtains and a black ceiling.

How Sad CBGB's is now a Boutique. All the dead Romones are spinning in their graves. The place was dive, I saw The Talking Heads there in '86, but it was the sprit of the place that awed me.

I have also heard they plan to open a CGGB's in Vegas? Restaurant, Bar, louge and Momorabilia... For this sacrilege I hope the Romones actually rise from ther graves and burn the place down.
