Name Your Drink(s)
So what are your favorite drinks these days? What are your ordering? What are you enjoying?
I've always been a Martini man of the James Bond variety (Vodka - Shaken, not stirred). Nothing says cocktail sophistication like a clear single olive adorned Martini. However, in my travels I've been sampling Mojitos - having had an excellent one in Paris, and another good experience in Chicago. Alas, when I tried three of the four varieties at Tortilla Joes - they all disappointed. A recent household experience thanks to Mixologist Tramspotter has restored my faith in the cocktail, but seeing the complexity in preparation - I see that it would be hard to order a good one from anything but a top-notch bar. At home Bhura Pegs , have been a hit - but again, this is something you have to make yourself to ensure you have the proper ingredients. These days, my favorite drink to order has been the Manhattan - dark cousin to the martini. Done right it has just enough depth and sweetness to fully satisfy. And the bright cherry shining through the ruddy-amber mix is a quintessential icon of cocktailery. |
I've discovered Whaler's dark rum. I've been drinking it neat. It's delicious and warming.
My perenial faves are gin martinis, gin and tonic, Long Islands. The Lost Bar at the DLH makes one of the best Long Islands around. A less frequent treat is a Side Car. Hearthstone makes a good one. Dark and sweet, nice and alcoholly. |
im with GD, my favorite as of late has been the Long Island Iced Tea, TGI Fridays makes a good Ultimate LI, love it.
past that, its Cabarnet Savignion for me :) |
I don't drink very often and when I do, it is usually a glass of wine. If I happen to be in a particularly festive mood though, I like (in no particular order, just depends on the mood)
White Russian - (has to be good vodka though) Bloody Mary (a well-made one in the morning is a treat. Ditto on needing good vodka) Captain Morgans Private Reserve (yummy) Celtic Crossing (a honey flavored Irish whisky that is a bit hard to find but delicious) |
It's no secret that tequila is my alcohol of choice, but occasionally I'll take a break from it. Lately, I've sort of rediscovered Bloody Mary's, but I don't like them if the mix is too spicy. I also like Long Islands, Lemon Drops and Absolut with cranberry juice.

Black Jack, out of the bottle...
Plain wrap Vodka, out of the bottle but thats only after I've been snortin coke off the stomachs of hookers  how about a mineral water or a Shirley Temple...thats probably safer for me |
I'm a vodka girl, myself, I prefer a Ketel 1 & tonic, or on rare occassion, a Ketel 1 & Red Bull.
|
Long Islands, Midori Sours and Fuzzy Navels are my drinks of choice. I've been drinking Ketel 1 vodka tonics (thanks you know who you are ;) ). I'm not a wine or beer person, though with the right meal a glass of wine is nice.

Oh yes, and I'm a beer fan. My general rule is, the darker the better, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a fine Heffenwizen or a good pale ale. A more universal rule is, the smaller the brewery the better.
