Pansy Division and The Avengers - tomorrow (Thursday) night!

I know it's last minute - but I'm going to be hitting Spaceland on Thursday night (October 11) to see the reunited Avengers (well, except for the rhythm section) with support from the original queer pop/punk icons Pansy Division.

Anyone up for a night out? Dinner before at the Red Lion perhaps?

Ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country is doing to you.

I'll let you know in a bit. I need to finish MA shirts tonight if I'm going out Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday - and take care of a dog.

What time is the show? I probably can't get out of work in time for dinner, but i could meet you guys at Spaceland. I'll probably need a ride to the bus stop after, though. ;)

First band, The Red Hearts (ex-Brian Jonestown Massacre) goes on at 9. Pansy Division and Avengers to follow.

See you there!

Hmm... maybe. Can I decide at the last minute?

What time? I'm going to guess "later" ...

blueerica 10-10-2007 09:52 PM

Ahh, there's the time.

I'm going to see what happens tomorrow (I have so much going on, it's rediculous)... but this is seeming like a good fit at the right time for me.

Since returning from the Palm Springs, I haven't been able to fall asleep before 3 regardless of how tired I feel. As I was sitting up in bed, wide awake, I suddenly realized that there's a good chance I might finally crash tomorrow night. That, and I've got a big project due on Friday that I may not be able to complete by 7 pm tomorrow, and it would require I stay late to ensure its completion. I'd rather not prioritize work when there's a chance to see these bands live, so I'll try to make it.

Wow! What a great show. The opening band, The Red Hearts (a local quartet) played a fun set that would not have sounded out of place at CBGB or Max's in 1978 - very retro but lots of fun. Pansy Division rocked the house with their power-pop gay anthems - for a band that hadn't played together in several months (they no longer live in the same city), they sounded great. Lastly, The Avengers took the stage. Yes, it was not the original line-up (the rhythm section was made of of two Pansy Divisioners). But the foursome that played Spaceland last night reminded me why punk rock was important to me back in my high school days. Penelope delivered the music that she originally wrote back in the late '70s with the same raw energy and feeling that she did 30(!) years ago. The intervening years must have been kind to Penelope, because unlike many of her 1st gen punk peers, she looked and sounded great (one caveat: a major mosh pit forced me to the back of the room). Their original bassist joined them onstage (on twang guitar) for two encores - which was almost a superfluity. Considering the fact that this was the band that opened for the Sex Pistols at their (original) final show at the Winterland, this was a reunion that counted - unlike the dog and pony show that the Sex Pistols reunion promises to be.

I'm sorry that I was the only LoTer to make the gig - anyone up for The Fiery Furnaces @ The Troubador on the 22nd (other than €uro and NA, of course)?

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 10-12-2007 02:46 PM

I would definitely be up for The Fiery Furnaces.
