Haggis - It's all the Sheep except for the meat.

I made it !!!

OK, so it was steamed in a bowl, not in a stomach, and it didn't have the traditional Lungs in it....

...but it turned out to be a tasty treat. Oh, and the "meat" for it cost $2.50 in total !!

Here's a pic then the recipe:

Recipe - Non-Frightening Haggis:

1 Sheep heart
1 Sheep liver
4 oz Butter OR Fresh suet
8 oz Oatmeal
2 Onions, finely chopped
1 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Freshly ground pepper
1/4 Teaspoon Cayenne
1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1 Cup Stock

Cover heart and liver with cold water, Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Process in food processer until finely chopped.

Toast oatmeal in a skillet on top of the stove, stirring frequently, until golden.

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Loosely pack mixture into Steaming bowl.

Cover bowl with baking paper and put into steamer. Steam for 3 hours, adding more water as needed to maintain water level.

Unmold on a hot platter. Serve with a spoon.

Ceremoniously served with "neeps and nips" - Mashed potatoes, mashed turnips, and nips of Drambuie.

Nummy !!!!!!!!! :snap:  :D

I love how the lungs are scary, but the heart and liver are totally normal.

haggis has GOT to be the result of some medieval dare...

The man who first ate oysters also invented haggis. ;)

Ok, Lash talked me into making the Cheesy-Mite rolls for his last meet/meat, but I promise never to do this for the next one.

Bleh!!!

(Sorry, Lash. ;) )

We named our Scottish Fold kitty Haggis, primarily because she had a stinky gas problem when she was a kitten. Turned out to be a good name for her- she's a cranky little terror. (This was the one and only time Eric got to name one of our animals).

Sorry, Lash, but there's a few other items on your recipe that I find a bit daunting. I'll be happy to get through life without partaking in this particular culinary oddity, but you're a brave bear to do so!

When I went to Scotland, I tried haggis. I liked it.
