Zombies = Terrorism

Just when you think you have seen it all.

A George Rogers Clark High School junior arrested Tuesday for making terrorist threats told LEX 18 News Thursday that the "writings" that got him arrested are being taken out of context.

"My story is based on fiction," said Poole, who faces a second-degree felony terrorist threatening charge. "It's a fake story. I made it up. I've been working on one of my short stories, (and) the short story they found was about zombies. Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran by zombies."
So this kid writes a short story about zombies attacking his high school. His grandparents find the story and turn it over to the authorities. Any story that contains a threat to a school is considered a felony in Kentucky so they charge the kid with making terrorist threats.

Really, is there no common sense anymore? Are kids not even allowed to write fiction anymore? Geez, had this kid written "War of the Worlds", he'd probably be facing life. Un-friggin-believable.

Nothing ticks me off more than people who take the correct concept of "caution" and snowball it into full-blown paranoia.

So what about all those movies made about terrorists taking over schools, shouldn't we also arrest the writers of those?

Is that why 'Shaun of the Dead' had to be made in the UK? :D

This story pissed me off to no end. When I compose myself, I'll compose a response...

;)

Well, to be fair to the grandparents/authorities, zombie terrorists really are the worst kind of terrorists.

I read about this on Gaiman's blog. It's like he and Jon Stewart are my only real news sources. Heh.

I can't stand to see the idea of zombies being dragged through the muck like this.

I feel bad for that kid.

I wrote a piece about death in junior high school. A 15 minute exercise because I'd forgotten to do my homework. And the teacher asked to speak with me. Was worried I was suicidal, I think, but the paper was actually about being afraid of death, not some goth girl romance about being in love with knives and death or something. Pretty funny. Felt bad for her, though. I think she was genuinely worried about me.

witch hunt anyone?! Communist?

What is up with turning in your grandchild because of a story about zombies?!

Where they afraid he might really get his zombie army together and strike?

"On Thursday, a judge raised Poole's bond from one to five thousand dollars after prosecutors requested it, citing the seriousness of the charge. "

OMG! - The seriousness of invading a school with zombies?!

Jimminy crickets. Have they nothing better to do down there in Kentucky? I honestly don't understand how the "authorities" can make those quotes with straight faces. Unless there's some suspicion that the kid's mastered reanimation of the dead and actually planning to set his zombie army on high schools, why doesn't someone point out that he's a MALE writing SCIENCE FICTION about SCHOOL, probably the place he spends most of his time and is most FAMILIAR with.

Is this what happens now that Miller's shuffled off this mortal coil?

The ray of sunshine in that article is that the kid's logic is working pretty darn well. He made the right arguments. Hopefully his smarts'll get him through.

Sigh.

Reading this, then reading a bunch of editorial cartoons about the last election just really, really depresses me.

Have we seceded yet? How about NOW??? Or maybe we should bus smart people into those states and build more universities?
