So what are the new trends in SoCal this season?

I've been out of the West Coast fashion loop for a few years. What are some of the new trends?

When I left it was flare bottomed black pants and bright jersey knit tops and platform flip-flops.

The 80s called. They want their decade back.

Boy isn't that the truth!

Dudes seem to be wearing chick pants. What the hell is up with that? Where do the boys go?

NOOOOOO!!!! I've been seeing teenage boys with those longish in their faces straight locks again. I was hoping it was another wave of anime influence and that we'd be spared yet more 80s trends.

The 80s were bad for fat people. This may explain why Wal-mart's fat girl section has been sucking as of late. I will choose to ignore fashion and hope mall bangs don't make a comeback. I skipped that one the last time around.

Now I feel bad for being so ecstatic that long shirts and long sweaters were back, for people like me with long torsos. Yay, I can get things for work that are not only stylish, but don't make me worry about exposing my belly button.

Here's a basic online example (I don't actually shop at the Gap).

You know, I don't think mall bangs are back.... but..... I was at the mall this weekend and I saw a glorious waterfall bang. I was stunned and couldn't say anything until we passed. J totally missed it.

As for fashion, right now I'm doing so so with it. What they're talking about is what the teenie boppers are wearing, and sorry guys, few of us here qualify as teenie-boppers, so I stopped worrying about following that one too closely. If I had the money (and a job) to do it, right now I'd stick with basic pants. It seems like flare might have made a tiny comeback, but have a general distaste for that look as well. I kind of like the high-waisted, tucked blouse in look, but I'm not the right height for it.

Oh yeah, so if I had the money?

I'd buy some basic, classic items. Slacks. Good pair of heeled boots or some flats. (Ballerina flats look good on just about anyone) Maybe touch it up with jewelry and accessories that are hip and leave it at that. Oh, and a pair of cords for extra snuggly measure. I love corduroys and realized when unpacking that I'd packed one pair of pants I wanted to ditch, and left a good pair of cords back in Cali.

Oh, but long sweaters and shirts are awesome. The kinds that are popular now are SOOO not the stupid ones from the 80s. It's a good look for people of varying weights.

Hey, random thought - what if we decided that we should each get one completely brand new, stylish outfit and post a pic of us in it? Perhaps give us a month to accomplish it? Don't forget the accessories!

If people are interested perhaps I'll start a thread. I need more clothes anyway.
