Am I late to the party, or do you guys already know about Jonathan Coulton?

Honestly, I'd heard of Jonathan Coulton before; I discovered him (and mentioned finding him) on the podcast, Coverville, several years ago, when he did a really brilliant quiet-acoustic cover of "Baby Got Back." Sometime later, DP posted a song by him about spring, which I also quiet enjoyed, but I didn't look further.

It appears he spent a year writing a song a week (a few years ago.) And from what I've heard so far, they're really quiet clever. He reminds me a bit of They Might Be Giants, and from what I've heard of Flight of the Conchords, that's similar to.

Songs you may want to check out include "Re: Your Brains," "Code Monkey," "Tom Cruise Crazy," "A Talk With George" (about George Plimpton, btw) ... He leans on clever, cheeky lyrics, but I quiet enjoy his melodies, too. He releases his songs under the creative commons license which means (for you non BoingBoingers) that they could be used in your own creative work, if you so desired. I think that's pretty cool.

I found out about him a couple months ago and have been enjoying his songs. Here's the feed for his "Thing a Week" podcast: http://feeds.feedburner.com/thingaweek

My husband sat one evening at his laptop and played Code Monkey several times in a row. Giggling. It was cute. I like the song, too. I haven't looked into anything else but a few things have shown up and I've enjoyed them.
