Gary Gygax fails saving throw

Gary Gygax, the creator of Dungeons and Dragons, failed his final saving roll today and died.

In memory of the man that fueled much of my misspent youth, a toast!

May he rest in peace! I know many who have played the game...my brother included.

Rest in Peace Gary... I mean, if you'd like to come back as some kind of wraith, that would be cool, but you probably wouldn't like it quite as much.

A toast to the man who worked hard to craft my favorite genre, the RPG!

(visible mojo to Moonliner for the title of this thread!!)

Here's to the man who started it all

When did D&D begin? I remember the "real" geeks in HS played it (they also did Model United Nations). We Theatre Geeks were so much less geeky!

I know I started with the original three book set (Men and Magic, Monsters and treasures, and Underworld & Wilderness) back in '78. I think it was published in '75 perhaps....

Damn it would be fun to go back to that rule set (which I still have) and play a campaign. I wish I had more geeky friends out this way.....

(and yes, in case there was any doubt, by NA's definition I am "real" geek)

My friends and I still play Dungeons & Drag-Queens. This is sad news. Still, the legacy will live on !

...Off to the village store to buy Crampons.

Chernabog 03-04-2008 05:27 PM

I wish I knew enough people that were interested in playing -- it would be great fun sometime. I heard rumors that DP and FP play D&D with Morrigoon but... that's behind the orange curtain ;)

CoasterMatt 03-04-2008 08:44 PM

I never played D&D, but I played an awful lot of the White Wolf games.

A game, a lifestyle, a cartoon, a movie and a book series. Controversy and a way of bonding.

We should start a LoT campaign done through the magic of skype. I know my die are around somewhere. I think I even have my character somewhere.

Remember, a random roll is a wasted roll.
