All I can say is Eeeewww!

Danskin Women's Triathlon Series has announced a change in venue for their June race to the DLR and they are planning the swim in the lagoon at DCA! How in God's green earth are they going to be able to make that safe to swim in?

Here's more info...

COURSE DESCRIPTION (as of March 17, 2008)

SWIM
approximately .35 mile

The swim is approximately .35 mile in the lagoon of Disney's California Adventure® Park. Disney® magic is in the air as you enjoy the views and park settings during your safe and calm lagoon swim.

BIKE
approximately 10 miles

The bike is a 10 mile course comprised of 2 x 5-mile loops leaving Disneyland® Resort's parking lot, traveling North on Disneyland Drive and then creating a large box to the east of Disneyland® Resort. You will re-enter the park through the original parking lot of Disneyland® Resort and the gates off Harbor Blvd – one more time around and you will be heading for the run.

RUN
approximately 2.5 miles

The run is approximately 2.5 miles in length and touches on the outside of Disneyland® Resort, through the main entrance, parts of the Magic Kingdom®, weaving through Disney's California Adventure® Park before returning adjacent to the Transition Area in the Timon Parking Lot where the crowds, the excitement and the fun will be waiting.
I know that Disney has been anxious to bring the success of their WDW triathlons to California, but the swim portion has been a huge obstacle. I don't see that they've done anything to remedy it, nor do they really have the time to do any kind of fix. I'd be willing to give it a try sometime, but until I see how they pull this one off - I'll have to pass.

The DCA lagoon isn't nearly so bad as Rivers of America would be and I'd say that it is probably a lot better than many places I've seen mini-triathlons run.

I would kind of echo Alex's sentiment. I believe that since there are no humans or animals that frequent the lagoon, I would think it has a better chance of being cleaner than your average public beach.

I have a friend who once did a mini that used a local pond. He had to do the bike and run with algae and frog eggs in his hair.

Clean, perhaps. But still inside DCA. Reason enuf to say "Eeeewww!" :D

DCA has to be useful for SOMETHING.

Yup swimming in the lagoon is almost as EWWWWWW as THIS HEADLINE ON IMDB:

Winehouse Goes Naked for Charity Campaign

Troubled Amy Winehouse has posed for a nude photo shoot to raise breast cancer awareness among young women. The singer appears naked in the April issue of British magazine Easy Living after she stripped off for photographer Carolyn Djangoly. In the black and white snapshot, Winehouse is captured playing a guitar, which covers her genitals, while two pieces of duct tape cover her nipples. The 24-year-old isn't the only celebrity posing naked for the campaign - singer Sade and actress Helena Bonham Carter also removed their clothing for the picture project.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

.......

Now back to your regularly scheduled triathlon.

But think of all the crap thrown in that lagoon. Plus there are tons of birds. Not to mention goodness knows what's in the dye the put in the water.

Also how would you get in/out of it?

innerSpaceman 03-20-2008 02:29 PM

You dive in from the slow-spinning Golden Zepher. Timing is everything.

Brilliant - does your dive get scored?
