Sell Your Swank! (August 16th-17th, 2008)
Hi everyone!
Just talked with Wolfy999, and she's offered up her ginormous well-located front yard for a multiple-family yard sale on August 16th and 17th. (She's had people line up as early as 6am on previous sales, and has made a small mint, due to location - in Garden Grove, not far from Disneyland, between 4 major roads.) This gives us plenty of time to rummage through our old treasures and make some nice cash. Just about anything can be sold, so even if you don't want to part with old junk, try making up some art, crafts, BBQ items, or even baked goodies. There is plenty of room for just about anything you want to sell. At the end of the two days, you're welcome to take back any remaining stuff, or leave it for the donation pick-up later that afternoon. Also, if you can't be present the whole time, someone always will be, and all sales will be tracked. However, you are responsible for bringing, displaying and pricing your own stuff. For those of you who want to join in, we could also use some extra tables and tarps for display that day, so if you have any to lend, that would be swell. I'll even bring my EZ-up so we have some shade to sit under, or to display any sun-sensitive items. Wolfy will advertise in the OCRegister, and I'll make signs for the streets. Any other advertising assistance (even if it's just plugging Craig's List for us) would be great. Please vote your interest in the poll above, and we'll have more details in the coming month. |
Huh... good idea!
|
Poll's up now.

Yep...one and all are welcome!
Let's make some extra cash to off set the economy thats setting us all back a bit! |
I've got a card table and a tarp. Plus a ton o stuff.
|
Boy, I'd love to, but I'd eat up any potential profit driving my crap down from SF. :(
Good luck guys, a great idea! |
Where does she live?
How do you track which stuff belongs to what person? |
What a fantastic idea! :) And also great two-month notice on this. Can I send a box of stuff or is this only for locals?

I grew up doing this with my aunts and such, and it goes very smoothly. People just need to make sure to use good stickers/tags (so they don't fall off), and put their initials on them. A description of the items sold can also be written next to the selling price on the spreadsheet, if anyone has concern over what exactly they sold. Each amount is always written down separately, like a receipt. It takes two people to run the cash table - one to handle the cash, and one to maintain the spreadsheet. Oh, and my friend J. is going to join us that day as well. (Some of you know her.) She might be making some crafts to sell. :) |
One question: I haven't participated in a garage sale in some time, but don't people usually haggle when making purchases? How will that be handled?
