THE quiet MAN
THE quiet MAN
by: Gemini Cricket Little did he know. (He was not the smartest of men) But, little did he know That he, the Quiet Man, Was quite the man. When his parents lectured him, The Quiet Man said nothing. He walked a straight line With crooked legs But the cause of course, Was his, of course. When a stranger called him Unspeakable spoken names, The Quiet Man said nothing. The Quiet Man lived on-stage And, in an age of self-worth, He saw the house lights fade Leaving him alone with the crowd. Although no one could truly see him He walked careful curves, Head to the ground Eyes closed as if the world watched him Sweat. When his boss reprimanded him today The Quiet Man said nothing. He is, and always was, sort of Self-proclaimed prince Erect in divinity and pity For those not him. When the queen insisted persistently, With a red face, The Quiet Man said nothing. Talking with pad and pencil Leaving his mouth shut Everyone hardly knew him Yet held his acquaintance for years. When his best friend yelled at him yesterday The Quiet Man said nothing. The Quiet Man and friends went for a swim, But he tried hard not to interrupt The water with ripples. The Loud Man jumped fast And complained of the cold water later. The Arrogant Man jumped head ahead And turned red, surfacing without his pants. The Jealous Man dove higher than The Arrogant Man and hit bottom with his face. The Sad Man leaped last Increasing his buoyancy with his tears. When the Quiet Man made it back to shore, Seeing sharks, he wished he had said something Before it was too late, but The Quiet Man said nothing. Cut off on the freeway, Tailgated in traffic, Short-changed at the grocery, At work doing a well trained monkey’s job, The Quiet Man said nothing, nothing, nothing. Watching the world with both eyes, Perspective assured, Goals in sight, without the car To get there, The Quiet Man hitchhiked and waited for a ride. But no one came. One day, under a favorite sunset sky of his, Eyes open, arms and hands outstretched, The Quiet Man passed away without a sound. And now, it was the world’s turn to say Nothing. |
Well done, GC. Good stuff.

Thanks for the comments, y'all.
So, I've done this a couple of times before (on MP & Fab), but it's time again. I'm going to take a break from the boards: LoT and MC. I have to sort through some things but I'll be back. I hope to see you guys at the park... hopefully before the 50th. I'm going to spend some time writing and just figuring out the Quiet Man inside and see if I can find a way to make him speak up. You all understand, I'm sure. Cheers, Y'all. I'll be back to the LoT soon. Brad :) |
Love you Brad, hope things are ok. We're always here as a sounding board.
Hurry back, hurrrrry baaack. :D |
All is fine, my dearest CP.
I just need to breathe and just be. You know? I need to sort through some stuff. I'll be back, I always come back. Besides, I love you all. :) |
