Paris hotels
I'm still looking, and my trip is coming up very soon. Any suggestions from those who have visited before? Also, I'm concerned about traveling around by myself. Are there certain areas I should maybe avoid getting a room in being a single woman alone?
|
I thought you were living in Paris.
Anyway. We just did the vacation apartment rental thing, which is cheaper. Our studio apartment was down an alley right behind the Moulin Rouge, which I had not realized was as, um, active a neighborhood as it is. There were no real problems. The fellow who slept in the doorway did not wake up all day, and the kids heeded my advice to avoid the puddles between the cobblestones. Also, the nearest Metro route down to Notre Dame went through some realistic neighborhoods. All in all, if I were a single woman, I might look elsewhere. |

I'm living in France, but far from Paris. I wasn't sure I could book an apartment since I won't be there a full week, just 5 nights. How did you find your rental? |
Yeah, apartment rentals are the way to go, even for 5 nights. Pfft, you could rent it for a week, and still save money over a hotel.
Speaking of which, my only recommendation is L'Hotel, a fantastic boutique lodging in the Latin quarter, a block from the Seine, right across from the Louvre. Fantastic location, amazing ambience, and yes - high prices. Oscar Wilde died there! My suggestion likely won't do you any good, but ... if i can afford it ... this is where i stay when i'm in Paree. |

It may be since you're a single that the budget hotel/restroom down the hall thing will be cheaper than an apartment. Fetchez la vache! |
We stayed at the Hotel Regyn in Montmartre which is right next to the Abbesses Metro station. It is cute, comfortable, safe and charming and not expensive. We would stay there again in a second.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone!
I ended up finding a great internet deal on a single-occupancy room at the Hotel des Saints Pères in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés. I'm very excited! I have also reserved a ticket for the Grandes Eaux Nocturnes show at Versailles. Did anyone get a Museum Pass while they were in Paris? I'm thinking I might get the two day one. I just need to make sure I plan right so I don't try to go to museums that are closed! |
How about the Paris Hilton? I hear just about anyone can get in there.
