Hijacked domain?
I'm helping someone set up a website. They've purchased a hosting plan (Powweb), they have their domain (registered through 1and1) and they've set the DNS at 1and1 to point to powweb's DNS as of a couple days ago.
But at the moment, entering the domain (which she registered back in June and was previously unregistered) takes to you to a "this domain is parked" page...at an entirely different web host (iPower). She's called all 3 companies and has been informed that her domain must have been "hijacked" and she needs to fax her info to one of the companies (not sure which, but I'm guessing iPower) to prove ownership. Anyone heard of this? Incidentally, she actually has another domain that IS hosted at iPower. But this new domain was never associated with iPower. |

I'll bet that powweb is owned by Endurance International Group, which is now the same as iPower. Probably nothing nefarious going on at all.

Interesting. Something's still not right though as any attempt to add the new domain to the new hosting account at powweb says the domain is already used. But it may just be a crossing of wires.

She says they told her as much on the phone, but insist that it was actually hijacked (I guess they have record of a login that made the account change).
I recommended she start researching other hosting options. |
I've heard good things about Dreamhost.

If she decides to look elsewhere I'll recommend the host we're on. They've been fantastic.

That too.

After years with iPower I finally got sick of their horrible service, did extensive research on hosting at webhostingtalk, and settled on medialayer. They don't oversell their servers, and the hosting experience has been perfect! They are a little more expensive, but with hosting I've found you get what you pay for - especially if someone else on your server decides to use all the TBs of bandwidth they are paying $5/mo for.

Happened to FabsFaves - godaddy was little help, but they did migrate all my files to fabrocks.com - no problem, I was gonna split from fabsfaves in the first place.
Fabsboards is still there, and still wonderful. And even though I got dustied and lounged and Jon's still there, it's still a happy place. Go fig. Quote:
