How to turn children into Natzi's in a week

I found this article very interesting. The teacher does an experiment in this class which gets a out of hand pretty quickly. I was amazed at just how quickly people can become a part of something like that. His comments about liberty being taken away one little piece of a time make me think. And finally, how he ended it by telling them they were part of a national movement and reshowing the films was a very fitting way to end the week. I'll bet those students remember him and the lesson they learned well.

Brings to mind the experiment in ... Jane somebody... she split the class (tiny kids) into blue eyes and brown eyes, and eye color determined your privileges in the class. Within 15 minutes they were acting as little racists insisting the other eye color were lazy and dumb and not worth playing with them. It was a 60 Minutes episode in the 60s.

Yeah, it is pretty well established that if you grant people institutional approval to be dicks, a lot of people will be dicks.

Makes me think of the Stanford Prison Experiment.

Another interesting read. It fascinates me just how quickly these transformations happened - in a matter of mere days.

I would like to think that most people are inherintly good - but perhaps we just try very hard to be like we think everyone around us is. (not the way they may actually be - but the way the appear to us to be.)

The elevator experiment seemed to point to that. There were some other things that popped up in You Tube as related I'll have to check out.
