Play Without Words

I'm so glad we're going! I love Matthew Bourne's sruff - and now I can't wait for his collaboration with Danny Elfman on Edward Scissorhands! Cool stuff - and just my style.

Saw it last night and it was awsome - Hip, Mod, & Sexy.
We saw the Servant earlier in the week, which is one of the films the play is based on, which sort of prepared us, or moreso the afterward Q&A with Mathew Bourne - which I've already talked at length about. But everything about the play was great, the sets, the swanky costumes, the mod dance numbers, the hot sex scenes, and the downward spiral of the upper class. I sure hope this one ends up on DVD. As it is, we picked up it's jazzy soundtrack, which is already playing on in my head. |
The soundtrack is so wonderful! It really captures the mood of the early 1960's - as did the Play/Dance. Seeing a recent screening of The Servant was helpful for the story line, but not necessary at all. It is amazing what can be communicated through movement and music only with nary a word used. If you get a chance to see it, don't pass it up. Totally worth it!
BTW, if you don't know who Matthew Bourne is, he choreographed the new Mary Poppins playing in London right now as well as the ending Swan Lake sequence in Billy Elliott (among many other things). He's an amazing choreographer who brings a very fresh perspective to dance. |
