Superworm and the Heavy Metal Trees
 

Story

Basically, a type of worm has evolved that passes heavy, valuable metals and make them easier for plants to imbibe.....so, possibly, the trees themselves become so full of metals that they can be "mined". I've never heard this theory before, very cool.
