When The Hills of Los Angeles Are Burning v.2008
Anyone affected?
I heard Chatsworth was at risk earlier today, and I think CM and MMG live there. KS said there was a small fire down by her place in SD. Nothing in OC (thankfully and hopefully remains so). |
My dad lives in Chatsworth. I hope my inheritance is safe.
|
My mother (who lives a safe distance from the fires) has become a refuge for about a dozen miniature horses because of their main home (Santa Susana @ Topanga) is too close to the fire.
Otherwise, no impact in me. |
Bill's mother called from South Carolina last night. She wanted to see if we were safe, and whether or not we might be evacuated.
We live in Long Beach. It was expected. She has no clue about the geography of California, and whenever anything happens anywhere in the state, she calls to make sure we're safe. |

We watched flames from the front porch last night, but can't see much of anything now.

I am particularly antsy about fires and wind. When I was about 14 or 15, growing up in Chatsworth (there were far fewer houses north of us at the time), I spent a scary 4 or 5 hours up on our old wood shake roof with a hose, constantly wetting it down and occasionally putting out a smoldering embers. Took me a long time before I would even recognize Halloween (the fire happened on Halloween). |
Saw some smoke yesterday around the south edge of Camarillo but generally fine. I'm told the smoke in the Valley is kind of heavy, though. The Sesnon fire has been inching towards Simi but not there yet.
|
All clear here so far. There was a small 6 acre fire just across the freeway but it's out.
|
Fire is now spread to Simi Valley. Smoke is in the air and can smell it breathing it in since yesterday. It was very windy today. But luckily it isn't near us like it was in 2003. That fire scared me more.
