Happy Birthday, Magritte!

Early this morning John logged onto to Google and noticed the special birthday tribute to Magritte. He has the day off, so we needed to do some grocery shopping and on our way, he reminded me that he had a bowler hat (thinking about the famous Son Of Man painting) and we started thinking of funny ways to pay homage to this great artist. Sooooo....naturally, we picked up a green apple at the store and returned home ready to snap some shots of one of us wearing the hat with a green apple floating in front of it.

"But how to get the apple to float?" we asked ourselves. John remembered we had some corn-on-the-cob holders and I could poke one in the side of it and hold the apple out in front of my mouth by biting on the holder, while John snapped the shot.

A couple of problems arose. First off, the apple would not keep erect (okay, get your minds OUT OF THE GUTTER!) and secondly the apple was too close to my face; so since I was a whiz at Photoshop, I decided we'd just take two pics, one of me wearing the bowler and another of the apple held mid-air propped up on a cob holder.

Then I remembered...it's his birthday, so let's put some candles in the apple. We searched for regular candles but could only find lettered ones. I figured "HB" could signify "Happy Birthday". So now we were in business.

After snapping off several test photos to get the right lighthing, focus, composition, etc. we finally finished; so now it was my job to Photoshop everything. As I was working at cutting and pasting the images, John logged onto LOT. He turned to me and said, "Oh, someone's beaten you to the punch!"

LSPoorEeyorick had indeed beaten us to the punch, but I was NOT about to let two and a half hours of work go to waste! So here is our version of what I now retitled "The Son of Mann".

Spoiler:

I may have beaten you to the punch (and by a whole day - astonishingly, I created that image yesterday for a discussion mocking people who scribble out their faces in pictures online) but you have by far made the masterpiece!

Thanks, LSPE!

About your "scribbled out faces" comment, I wonder if Magritte was onto something way before computers were around.
