Okay, maybe I might be holding off on the iPhone

Just announced at the CES show, Palm's new OS and phone. Hmm...

Something I will definitely stopping to check out this weekend.

Bleh, it looks like it's retaining water.

The more I see my friends and coworkers play with their iPhones, (or other equivalents) the more I don't want one. I'm impressed with the techonology and astounded by the endless apps, but, I just can't add another monthly bill, especially one that gives me access to content I already have access to on my computer. (Or on my laptop when i'm in a wireless zone.) It's a very gadgety gizmo, and I'm just not sold.

On the other hand, I'm in love with my recently received Nintendo DS. I guess my needs are relatively simple. (Plus, I really dig using the stylus as a means of controlling Link in Zelda. Total FUN!)

... just for the sake of balance: I still love my iPhone. The (correct choice and usage of the) endless apps make it the best portable toy I've had in a long while. I really enjoy the voice-recognizing Google app, and RjDj has provided me with endless hours of trippy goodness.

See, I don't give a rip about looks (as evidenced by many of my clothing choices). It was many of the features of the new Palm that interested me:
  • curved, slide-out keypad
  • Wi-Fi and 3G (EV-DO Rev. A, to be exact), as well as GPS (with turn-by-turn directions courtesy of TeleNav), stereo Bluetooth, 8GB of internal storage, a 3MP camera, a 3.5mm headset jack
  • removable battery (the lack thereof on the iPhone is of great concern to me
  • WebOS's way of letting you handle and sort all your open applications like a deck of cards. If you're composing an e-mail, for example, you can flick up, call open a new application, and then return to your e-mail at any point. All open applications appear as windows (similar to the windows in the iPhone's Web browser), and you can flick back and forth, reorder them, and discard them at will. (That's really cool, and it solves one of the biggest problems that's dogged the iPhone—namely, that its various applications are all walled off, making it difficult to easily switch from, say, the Web browser to the calendar and back again.)
  • "Touchstone," a little hockey puck of an accessory with a killer feature—wireless charging. Just place the Pre on top of the Touchstone device to power it up.

When our current contract is up late this year, I will be looking into whatever Android phones are available.

I love my iPhone. And now that I have Fieldrunners on it, I love it even more.
It's a fun game. Better than Tap Defense. Tap Defense Schmap Defense.

What is the name of the Google App ? Inquiring Bears want to know !

The Google App is called ... "Google". When you lift the iPhone to your ear, it emits a small beep. You say what you're looking for and then lower the phone. More times than not, it will actually recognize what you're looking for.

I seem to have the opposite experience, more often than not I get something completely different, though frequently, it makes me laugh. It's either my voice of the stuff I tend to search for
